Looking for a stress free vacation without the inconvenience of traveling? Look no further than Mission Bay Resort, a beautiful beachfront getaway located in the heart of San Diego. Previously known as the Hilton San Diego Resort and Spa, this newly reimagined resort provides a revitalized ambiance, boutique appeal and an array of family friendly facilities. Speaking as a mother who recently enjoyed a staycation at Mission Bay Resort, I can genuinely attest that it’s an ideal spot for a relaxing beach retreat right in your own neighborhood.

Renovated Rooms and Suites: A Home Away from Home

One of the highlights of my stay at Mission Bay Resort was the beautifully renovated rooms and suites. Offering a range of options to suit every family’s needs, the accommodations are both comfortable and aesthetically pleasing. Whether you’re a solo traveler or a family, there is a room or suite that will make you feel right at home.

Traditional Guest Rooms

The traditional guest rooms at Mission Bay Resort provide ample space for relaxation and rejuvenation. With 365 square feet of living space, there’s plenty of room to spread out and unwind. Choose between a king-size bed or two queen-size beds, and enjoy the option of a balcony or patio with views of the garden, resort, or bay.

Studio Guest Rooms

If you’re looking for a bit more space, the studio guest rooms are ideal. With 480 square feet of living space, these rooms feature a dedicated living area complete with a comfortable couch and coffee table. Just like the traditional guest rooms, you can choose between a king-size bed or two queen-size beds, and connecting rooms are available upon request.

Fire Pit Studio Guest Rooms (Top Pick)

For those seeking a beachy atmosphere, the fire pit studio guest rooms are a top pick. These rooms open up to private patios with fire pits, some of which are right on the shoreline. Imagine sitting around the fire, roasting marshmallows, and enjoying the sound of the waves crashing just steps away. These rooms offer all the comforts of the studio guest rooms, making them perfect for groups who enjoy socializing outdoors.

San Diego Suites: Luxury and Elegance Combined

If you’re looking to indulge in luxury and elegance during your stay, the San Diego Suites at Mission Bay Resort are the perfect choice. Ranging from 671 to 1463 square feet, these spacious suites offer all the luxuries you would expect from a four-star resort. Choose between a private balcony with bay or garden views, or a patio with a fire pit. The suites feature open-planned living rooms separate from the bedroom, complete with a dining table and sitting area.

Accessible Guest Rooms: Inclusivity for All

One aspect of Mission Bay Resort that stood out to me was their commitment to inclusivity. The accessible guest rooms offer all the features of the traditional guest rooms, with special touches to ensure a comfortable stay for guests with mobility challenges. These rooms feature wheelchair-accessible patios with bay or garden views, as well as visual fire alarms, doorknockers, and phone alert options. Wheelchair users can enjoy lowered peepholes and towel rails, as well as roll-in showers and bathtubs.

Dining Options: A Culinary Journey for Every Palate

When it comes to dining, Mission Bay Resort offers an array of options to satisfy every palate. From waterfront dining to poolside snacks, there’s something for everyone.

Covewood: A Culinary Delight by the Waterfront

Covewood, Mission Bay Resort’s waterfront restaurant, offers a superb menu that has earned it several awards, including a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence. SolRisa is open daily for lunch and dinner, and even offers light breakfasts on the weekends.

Mission JOe: Fuel Up with a Cup of Coffee

If you’re a coffee lover like me, you’ll appreciate Mission JOe, the resort’s dedicated coffee shop. Start your day with a cup of Zoka brand coffee, alongside other hot and cold drinks. Indulge in breakfast staples like bagels and muffins, or choose from a variety of pre-made meals if you’re on the go. The relaxed atmosphere of Mission JOe, coupled with the comfortable patio furniture, makes it the perfect spot to sit back and enjoy your morning cup of joe.

Mission Bay Resort is not just a place to sleep and eat—it’s a haven of relaxation and fun for the whole family. From swimming pools to beach access, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Swimming Pools: Dive into Refreshment

One of the highlights of my stay was the variety of waterside locations offered by Mission Bay Resort. The resort boasts two fabulous swimming pools, as well as exclusive beach access. The waterfront pool allows you to enjoy both the beach and the pool, with plenty of loungers available for relaxation. The poolside restaurant ensures you’re never far from refreshments. For an added touch of luxury, consider renting a poolside cabana, complete with loungers, a TV, and free WiFi. The little ones will enjoy the wading pool, a shallow pool filled with brightly colored balls. Parents can relax on the surrounding loungers or join their children in the pool. Please note that children under 3 years of age are only allowed in the wading pool and must wear swim diapers.

Beach Access and Water Sports: Fun in the Sun

Mission Bay Resort offers exclusive access to a private bay beach, allowing you to enjoy the sand and seclusion without leaving the hotel. The beach is fully serviced, meaning you can order food and drinks from Fresco’s while enjoying the sun and surf. Take part in beach activities such as bonfires, volleyball, bean bag toss, and badminton. If you’re feeling adventurous, try your hand at water sports like water skiing and stand-up paddleboarding, available right in front of the hotel. Action Sports Rentals on-site offers everything you need for a day of fun in the water, including surrey bikes for a family-friendly ride around the bay.

Fitness Center: Stay Active and Energized

Staying active and healthy is made easy at Mission Bay Resort. The resort boasts a fully equipped fitness center, complete with Life Fitness equipment and free weights. You can also take part in fun fitness classes, such as boot camp, yoga, Zumba, and pilates. The fitness center is open 24 hours a day, and saunas are available from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day. Whether you prefer a solo workout or enjoy the camaraderie of a group class, the fitness center has everything you need to stay active and energized during your stay.

Mission Bay Resort is a paradise for families, with a wide range of activities to keep children of all ages entertained. In addition to the swimming pools and beach access, the resort offers board games at the front desk, ping pong tables, and jumbo checkerboards. Children can also participate in tennis clinics or join in the fun of s’mores nights by the beachside bonfires. The resort’s commitment to family-friendly activities earned it the title of the second-best family resort in the US in 2019, and it’s easy to see why.

At Mission Bay Resort, every member of the family is welcome, including your furry friends. The resort allows up to two dogs per room, with a maximum weight limit of 75 pounds each.
